ABOUT STUDENT LIFE

The Student Life team oversees the growth and development of students outside the classroom. Student Life staff members work within and across teams focused on residential life and Minerva community development, civic engagement and city/cultural immersion, mental health and wellbeing, and professional development of students to prepare them for post-graduation employment or graduate and professional school. These teams are unified by a shared goal of providing and/or supporting opportunities for integrated learning for our diverse and global student community.

THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Student Life Coordinator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering student growth and development through experiential learning, developing strong partnerships, and contributing to the San Francisco Student Life team’s work in fostering a healthy and inclusive student community. This role requires project management skills, creativity, problem solving skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality experiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Experiential Education Manager, the Student Life Coordinator will be one of the primary team members responsible for leading the experiential education program in San Francisco. This will include program development, program execution, and post-program engagement and follow-up.

The Student Life Coordinator will oversee and be responsible for:

  • Facilitation of Staff-led City Experiences when necessary.
  • Gathering and brainstorming options for possible future events and programs.
  • Coordinating with the Experiential Education Manager on the Academic Calendar
  • Tracking attendance for City Experiences and following up with late arrivals and no-shows.
  • Facilitating student follow up meetings when relevant.
  • Record Keeping and documentation of experience offerings through detailed Run of Shows and other necessary resources.
  • Attendending and leading wellness activities for students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

STUDENT LIFE GROUND TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES

In addition, the Student Life Coordinator will be responsible for a set of common, core Student Life Team functions as a key member of city management which are shared among the City Team Student Life members.

These responsibilities will include the following, along with others to be determined by local need and guided by the Student Life Coordinator:

  • Supervise assigned student interns
  • Attending office hours to answer student questions.
  • Being present for staff weekly planning meetings.
  • Be familiar with and enforce the rules and regulations of the Minerva Student Handbook and Student Residential Agreement
  • Holding office hours within the residence hall to be an in-person support for students
  • Collecting relevant data and information to improve the Academic calendar
  • Supporting initiatives hosted by other members of the Student Life City Team, included but not limited to: in-city programs, Milestone traditions, Community Programs, and Mandatory programming.
  • Hold the emergency phone on a rotating weekend basis, once every five weekends from Friday (morning) - Sunday (nighttime), during which the on-duty staff must remain in the Bay Area to respond to emergencies as they arise. All emergency response staff will receive training to understand the building and resources to effectively respond to student emergencies.
  • Be visible to students during the Monday to Friday work week, with demonstrable active contributions during the entire semester, including the requirement for some weekend or evening work

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS…

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related area
  • Experience in the following areas: experiential and programmatic design, community building and conduct philosophies, and data organization.
  • Experience working with a diverse group of individuals around the world, able to empathize and connect with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Familiarity with approaches to student development, student engagement, and higher education policy compliance (including FERPA, Title IX, and Clery).
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and an understanding of the primacy of effective communication in this role; conflict resolution; rapid problem-solving; deep awareness of intercultural dynamics; team building and collaboration; adaptability and flexibility
  • Emergency response and health and safety protocol design and daily administration; operations and logistics;

Hiring Salary Range: $70,000 - $75,000, annually

This role is a six-month appointment from Jan 02, 2024 - June 15, 2025 with possibility of extension, contingent upon funding and continued need for the position.
